In this article, we will talk about “ill effects of smoking” of tobacco,Youth involvement in smoking,some reasons for more involvement and at the end a simple technique to quit smoking.

The youth is becoming more and more involved in it. That is why I thought this is something I should write about. It is found most of the smokers get addicted to smoking at a very young age. That means, once you are old and mature enough to judge what is best for you; you won’t come close to such things. I think our youth is smart and has ample knowledge but it is still not acquainted with many of the things that smoking does to your body. This article is all about the big and little damages that our body bears when we smoke.

I read, about 20% of world’s population consists of smokers. And this number is increasing day by day. So, I think both smoker and non-smoker should be well aware of the ill effects of smoking. Most of us start to smoke out of fashion and slowly gets addicted to it. That’s where everything goes wrong. So it is best to stay from it and if you are already into it then you should quit it as soon as soon possible.

Availability is also a big  factor why cigarette smoking is so dangerous. Cigarettes are available every where. You don’t need a license of age proof to buy it. You can smoke anywhere. And the cost of a cigarette isn’t so much, i.e., makes it easy to purchase. Hence, it you have a great chance of getting addicted to it. In lots of studies it is proved that a certain amount of alcohol when on limited consumption can prove vital. You might have heard about it too. But no one says that about cigarette smoking.

Before starting list of “ill effects of smoking”,Lets first see what exactly you intake when you smoke a cigarette.

Well you might have got an idea of what exactly you intake when smoke a cigarette ,with the image illustration.Now lets come to our main topic that is ‘ill effects of smoking”.

I have been a smoker for few years now and I am well aware of its effect on health. Now, I’ll share some of my experiences that I had with smoking and I ill share with some of my conclusion over ill effects of smoking.

Breathing – Smoke of the tobacco reduces the efficiency of your lung to absorb oxygen. Basically, when you smoke a large amount of tar gets accumulated inside your lungs. Hence, they don’t able to work as normal. Since you know how important oxygen is for your body. Any decrease in level of oxygen wills effect every single cell of your body from your brain to the tip of toe nails.

Stamina
-You’ll find almost all the athlete stay away from tobacco as it is a stamina killer. If you don’t believe me then you can try it yourself. First, find the maximum pushes up or pull ups you can do with out any stress, after smoking for few days try it again. There will be a gradual decrease in the no. of push up you can do. This will clearly prove the effect of smoking on one’s stamina.

Muscle – Another effect that tobacco smokes has on your body, is, it prevents the expansion of your muscles. No matter how hard you workout in the gym it will go in vain. People have a great misconception that by smoking you can reduce weight but what smoke does, is, it loosens the muscle, due to which a person looks thin. But, if you are fat, i.e., then it won’t make any difference because smoking can only contract muscles not the fatty tissue in your body.

Sore throat – Persistent smoking will ultimately give you a sore throat especially in the morning. Believe me! It becomes very irritating waking up in the morning with pain in your throat; though the pain is not very strong but its enough to ruin your morning.

Coughing – Imagine you are sitting next to a really beautiful girl and suddenly to starts to cough like a TB patient. Or you are a girl on a date with a extremely handsome guy. Suddenly, you cough and ounce of thick mucus fills your mouth. How impressed would he/she be? I can’t talk about others but this is enough to creep me out. Yes, acute coughing is another major affect of smoking.

Carcinogenic – You might be well aware of cancer causing agents present in the smoke of a cigarette. Cigarette smoke will cause cancer of every organ related to the respiratory tract. E.q Lung cancer, throat cancer. Few years back, I met a guy who had some kind of cancer; he had a machine fitted in him, through which he spoke. I know it is not right to say but it was disgusting and to tell you the truth I think he was lucky because in spite of all of this, he was alive. All of them aren’t so lucky. Is it worth it? This something you should ask yourself whenever you smoke.

Hair – Smoking increases the level of DHT in your scalp which is the major factor for hair loss. From what I have experienced; it depends upon the genetics of a person. Some people loss more hair, some people loss less and some people don’t loss at all. But can you take that chance. According to me, hairs are the most important asset that you posses; when it comes to looks. A person with less hair starts to look at least 5 – 10 years older than he really is.

Skin – Cigarette smoke has toxins which affects your skin and makes it dark. Pre-mature aging of the skin is another effect. This is something that girls are most scared of; looking old.

Gums and Teeth – It is believed that smoking affects the health of your gums, indirectly affecting your teeth. It also turns your teeth yellow and let me tell you yellow might be the favorite color for lots of people but when it coincide with your teeth, that’s is something that will turn off more people than a boiled covered dwarf.

Chemical – The high amount of nicotine that you consume while smoking is not good for your brain. For a while it will energize you and your brain will start working a little faster but on a long run it will destroy your brain cell thus will slow it down.

Heart problems – It also causes various heart diseases. Smokers are more prone to risk of heart attack then non-smokers.

Insomnia – It is observed that people who are into smoking for a period of time develops insomnia.

Social-effect – People with the habit of smoking find them self away from the crowd. And many non-smokers don’t like people with smoking habits. 70% of girls are believed to hate smokers.

Pregnancy – There is a heavy chance of a child with defect if the woman bearing the child smokes. These can be very severe. Babies born pre-maturely, small in size and even dead babies are some severe effects of smoking. If you can’t stop smoking for yourself you at least do it for your child.

Impotency – Smokers suffers from various sexual problems. Erectile dysfunction is one of it. Chain smoking also leads to impotency in men. So if you think smoking is cool think again. Because impotency isn’t such a cool think.

Depression – There is a combined effect of all the other effect. When you lose your hair, don’t have a healthy skin, yellow teeth, you start to repel people and impotent too then you tend to lose confidence, resulting in depression.

Chemicals – It is believed that cigarette smoke contains 90,000 types of different harmful pollutants. It is a huge number, isn’t it? So, when you are taking that puff of smoke you should think about all those chemicals filling your body.

Death – According to W.H.O, 50% of smokers die at an early age. In 2004 alone it caused 5.4 million deaths.

Passive smoking – If even after reading all of this you aren’t repelled by it, then, this is another mighty reason that will push you back. When you smoke not only you but the people around you inhale that smoke. It has been found that passive smoking is much more dangerous than active smoking. I think the reason behind this might be the fact that the body of an active smoker evolves to be much more resilient to the cigarette smoke than of passive smoker. This is the only valid reason that made some sense to me, in context of, how passive smoking is dangerous.

Simple technique to quit smoking

Now a day’s people understand the danger they are putting themselves into when they smoke, because of that they are trying to quit it. There are lots of treatments through which you can quit smoking. One of them that I know, is very simple and from what I know is also very effective.

A chemical will be given to you after which whenever you smoke you’ll have a heavy feeling of nausea. So, you start to repel that smoke and eventually you lose its addiction.

    I was frightened to see the image of the cigarette, its contents specifically.Thank God I’m not into that, But I have more concerned for passive smoking, which at times seems to be unavoidable.
    I use to have a boss and it’s very difficult to sit in his room as he use to be a chain smoker, many people requested him to stop it’s intake but he couldn’t and few months back only I got the news that he was suffering from Lung cancer, the deadliest disease. His lung though has been removed.

    Thanks for bringing this issue in limelight.

    Wonderful enough mate :) I really love this one.

    Glad you are aware of the effects of smoking now and confess you have made will make you strong too :) Fortunately, I’m not a smoker or drinker. So I’m safe in most parts but passive smoking is something I always aware of. I never seen a person smoke alone where no one is near just to avoid it’s effect to others. So we non-smokers need to aware of that always. health and safety is always our responsibility, no? ;)

    To be honest, I don’t believe someone who smoke would stop smoking just by reading bad effects of it ’cause they are addicted and make it as a habit. There are only handfull of people really stop it for the sake of their health :) There are few times my friends suggested me to smoke or drink a little :D But my life-time goal is not to smoke and not to drink alchol unless I’m out of water or something else to drink to save my life.

    Well, I really believe this one will be helpful for people to be aware of passive smoking and wish at least one person would stop smoking though :)

  3. Smoking is extremely bad thing to do. One cannot escape seeing so many youngsters taking up this filthy habit and thinking how cool it is. Smoking single handedly does so harm that no other can do. Avoid at all costs. Thanks for pointing out these harmful effects of smoking.
    In addition,it also oxidises and chemically modifies the lipids such as LDL which in turn can be taken up by scavenger receptors causing blocking up of arteries and leading to heart attacks,

    This was a great post and you covered the dangers of smoking brilliantly.

    Smoking is one of those things that at time when one is young and smoking, it seems like no harm will be done. However, smoking is so dangerous. A person will experience all kinds of health problems later on in life. I’ve seen it with family members.
